Belleview may soon test whether Foodie Fest needs one more food group: beer. Or at least that is the latest proposal floating around City Hall.
The Belleview City Commission was recently asked to allow city staff to begin rewriting portions of the city’s alcohol ordinance, an effort that could eventually clear the way for limited beer and wine gardens at city-sponsored events such as Friday Foodie Fest and the Chili Cookoff.
Community Engagement Liaison Robert Vass brought the request forward as the city begins looking toward its 2026-27 event season.
City staff said that the current ordinance contains outdated references to locations such as the Lion’s Den and Magnolia Hall that no longer exist. The latest idea would also take things a step further.
Under the proposed setup, a contracted vendor would provide the alcohol, equipment and staffing for designated beer and wine areas at certain city events. Sales would be limited to those 21 and older, with a two-drink limit per person. Outside alcohol would remain prohibited.
Belleview’s existing rules already place a lengthy list of conditions on alcohol at special events. Designated alcohol areas must be enclosed with controlled entrances and exits, and vendors are required to obtain the appropriate state alcohol license.
The rules also require event staff at entrances, at least one police officer on site and prohibit alcohol from being served in glass containers.
So while Belleview may be flirting with a little festival-district energy, the alleged drinking area would come with fences, rules, police presence and a two-drink ceiling. For now, the only thing officially brewing is the paperwork.
