Ocala Woman Hits Roadblock: Domestic Battery and Drug Charges
Katie Richards of Ocala found herself in hot water on June 6th. What started as a routine traffic crash spiraled into a dramatic arrest for domestic battery and drug possession.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call around 6 PM at the intersection of County Road 484 and SW 49th Court Road. Richards, who initially claimed she was simply awaiting the Florida Highway Patrol, ended up under investigation for a far more complicated series of events.
According to the report, Rusty Craft, a coworker of the victim, was roped into the situation when the victim asked for a ride to the crash scene. Upon arriving, the drama unfolded as Richards attempted to leave the scene. The victim, concerned for her ability to drive safely, removed the car battery. This led to Richards allegedly attacking the victim in a fit of rage, leaving him with a pink discoloration on his face and small scratches on his hand.
Despite her initial denials, the victim’s account, supported by visible injuries, led to Richards’ arrest. To add to her woes, a search of her purse revealed a small stash of marijuana, earning her an additional charge for possession.
While Richards has no prior battery convictions, this incident has surely put her on the radar. She was transported to the Marion County Jail, where she now faces multiple charges stemming from the evening’s chaotic events.
