Ocala Police K-9 Nabs Speeding Suspect in High-Octane Pursuit
It was a dog day afternoon on May 31st when Officer Parker’s routine traffic stop turned into a high-speed showdown that would have made Hollywood proud. Anthony A. Jackson, 53, behind the wheel of a red Ford F-150, decided to test his luck against Ocala’s finest after blowing through a stop sign at NW 1st St. and NW 21st Ave. The footloose felon zipped through the streets at speeds up to 65 mph, with officers in hot pursuit.
Jackson’s joyride took a wild turn as he veered off-road, tearing through a vacant lot near Legacy Park. But the Ocala PD was far from giving up. Enter Officer McEvoy, who kept the chase alive on SW 3rd St. The red truck’s escapades were cut short when it mowed down a stop sign and an electrical box while turning onto SW 11th Ave.
As the pursuit reached SR 40, K-9 Officer Brinkley picked up the trail, with Officer Ower laying down the law—and stop sticks—on Pine Ave. The front driver’s side tire met its match, but Jackson wasn’t ready to throw in the towel just yet. He pressed on, only to meet his match in a light pole on SW 17th St.
Jackson’s grand finale was a foot chase, but he was no match for the four-legged enforcer, K-9 Diesel. The habitual traffic offender, driving on a suspended license, was swiftly apprehended. A quick trip to the hospital for a dog bite later, Jackson was booked into the Marion County Jail, facing charges of fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
Ocala’s K-9 unit once again proved they’re pawsitively unstoppable.
