Man’s Alleged Tantrum Ends in Arrest: From Eviction Advice to Aggravated Assault
A domestic dispute escalated from an eviction inquiry to an arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon earlier this week. On June 7, Marion County deputies responded to a distressing call from Deborah Lucas, 70, who had been seeking advice on evicting her boyfriend of three years, Steven Scott. What started as a phone call for help turned into a real-life drama.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Lucas reported that Scott’s behavior had become increasingly erratic. The tipping point came at around 10:00 AM when an argument spiraled out of control. Lucas, savvy enough to start recording on her phone, captured Scott growing aggressive, demanding to know if she was recording him. When she denied it, he tried to snatch her phone twice, calling her a “bully” and blaming her for the altercation.
The situation worsened when Lucas retreated to the bathroom to escape Scott’s aggression. Undeterred, Scott followed, forcing his way into the bathroom. Cornered and frightened, Lucas then noticed Scott holding a black handgun. Though he never pointed it at her, the presence of the weapon and his aggressive behavior left her fearing for her life.
Deputies arrived to find a shaken Lucas, who provided them with the video evidence of Scott’s menacing behavior. During his post-Miranda interview, Scott’s story changed multiple times. Initially, he claimed he had invited Lucas to the gun range, later denying any physical altercation, and finally accusing Lucas of attempting to hit him. His inconsistent statements, combined with Lucas’s video, led to his arrest on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery on a person aged 65 or older, and false imprisonment.
Scott now resides in the Marion County Jail, facing serious charges while Lucas remains at the incident location, undoubtedly relieved but still grappling with the traumatic ordeal.
