Domestic Battery Leads to Arrest After Violent Confrontation in Marion County
A Marion County man is facing multiple charges after a violent altercation with his mother on April 12, 2025. Authorities responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at a residence on the 12th of April, where the victim, Laura Wright, was allegedly attacked by her son, 32-year-old Kelly Ray Sexton Jr.
According to the victim, Sexton began banging on her bedroom window early that morning. Fearing damage to the window, Wright attempted to stop him by going to the front door. However, when she tried to shut it, Sexton allegedly forced his way inside, causing Wright to fall. After retreating to her bedroom to call 911, Wright said Sexton followed, kicking the door open and physically restraining her in a bear hug. During the struggle, Sexton allegedly grabbed her phone, threw it across the room, and threw her to the ground.
Despite a prolonged struggle, Wright managed to regain possession of her phone and escaped the house to contact authorities. When law enforcement arrived, they found evidence of the struggle, including damage to the bedroom door and door trim. The defendant, who had been sitting on the front porch when officers arrived, denied the allegations, claiming the victim was lying.
Sexton was arrested on charges of burglary with battery (domestic), tampering with a victim, and false imprisonment. While in custody, he reportedly told officers, “All I did was stop her from calling the cops.”
A small injury to Sexton’s thumb was noted, but he failed to explain its origin. Based on the physical evidence and the victim’s testimony, law enforcement determined there was sufficient evidence to arrest Sexton on the listed charges.
