MCFR Rescues 4 Dogs from Summerfield Structure Fire
At 10:04 a.m. on April 14, 2025, Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) units were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 9000 block of SE 140th Place in Summerfield. Multiple 911 callers alerted authorities to flames and heavy smoke, with reports indicating that four dogs were possibly trapped inside the home.
Engine #30, responding to the scene, observed a column of black smoke from several miles away. Upon arrival at 10:07 a.m., firefighters found the home fully engulfed in flames. Immediate action was taken to establish command, deploy hose lines, and direct incoming units. Crews from Rescue #30 made entry into the smoke-filled home, using thermal imaging cameras to navigate the intense heat and thick smoke. Within minutes, all four dogs were located and safely brought outside.
Battalion Chief #3 arrived shortly after and assumed command of the operation, coordinating efforts with crews from Belleview Station #18, Spruce Creek Station #30, and Villages Station #10. As firefighters fought the blaze, a portion of the roof at the rear of the structure collapsed. Despite the additional challenge, an aggressive interior attack brought the fire under control by 10:37 a.m.
During overhaul operations, crews successfully recovered valuable family heirlooms that had been at risk in the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The homeowners later arrived on the scene and were reunited with their four-legged companions, who were unharmed.
The American Red Cross has been contacted to assist the family during this difficult time. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
