A tragic fire claimed the life of a family dog in a Silver Springs neighborhood on Sunday, September 8. At 12:23 p.m., Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) units were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 1200 block of NE 130th Terrace.
The 911 caller reported seeing flames emerging from the roof and heavy smoke billowing from the home, with a dog still inside. Upon arrival, Engine #4 confirmed a working fire and immediately established command, launching an aggressive offensive attack as the fire had already spread into the attic.Additional units from Anthony Station #1, Rolling Greens Station #28, Silver Springs Shores Station #17, and Fort McCoy Station #7 responded to support firefighting efforts and secure a water supply. Firefighters conducted both primary and secondary searches of the residence while simultaneously battling the fire in the attic.Despite their efforts, the family dog was discovered deceased inside the home. Fortunately, the residents were not home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported among civilians or firefighters. The fire was brought under control by 12:51 p.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The American Red Cross has been called in to assist the displaced residents during this difficult time.
