Belleview man’s pasture getaway ends with taser, stolen gun charge

A Belleview man is behind bars after authorities say he turned a Summerfield traffic stop into a demolition derby across pastures, fences, and highways before finally being tasered and tackled.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Delvin Brown fled from deputies on April 26 after being spotted leaving a known drug house. When a deputy tried to pull him over near SE 161st Street, Brown initially slowed down — then floored it, kicking off a wild pursuit that spanned several miles and two counties.

During the chase, deputies say Brown barreled through a wooden fence, sped through a pasture, and tossed a stolen Beretta 9mm pistol out of the SUV window while telling his passenger to “duck.” The passenger later told deputies he repeatedly begged to be let out, but Brown allegedly refused, saying, “I can’t, I’m gonna go to jail.”

Deputies eventually spun Brown’s SUV into a 180-degree turn using a PIT maneuver, boxed him in, and arrested him after a brief foot chase and taser deployment.

Investigators say Brown’s charges include aggravated fleeing and eluding, kidnapping-false imprisonment, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony driving while license suspended, and tampering with evidence. He also allegedly violated a domestic violence injunction that prohibited him from possessing weapons.

Records show Brown is no stranger to law enforcement, with previous convictions for fleeing police, possession of methamphetamine, and multiple suspended license offenses.

Brown was booked into the Marion County Jail, where he is currently being held on a lengthy list of charges.
