Ocklawaha Driver Trapped After Tree Crash, Rescued in Minutes

An early-morning crash in Ocklawaha sent one person to a trauma hospital Saturday after Marion County Fire Rescue crews extricated the trapped driver from a heavily damaged vehicle.

Crews were dispatched at 6:01 a.m. to the area of 16 Bay Court Pass after a 911 caller reported a vehicle had struck a tree and the driver was trapped inside. Units from MCFR’s Weirsdale Station #27 arrived on scene by 6:11 a.m. and confirmed the driver was entrapped.

Battalion Chief #3 assumed command and directed the extrication operation. Firefighter Paramedics began using specialized equipment at 6:13 a.m. and successfully freed the driver within three minutes. The patient was classified as a “Trauma Alert” and transported to a nearby trauma hospital for further treatment.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
