A Belleview High School student was arrested Tuesday after a firearm was discovered hidden in the woods near his vehicle on campus, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Camren Moisell, 17, was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and possession of a firearm by a minor. Authorities say the investigation began after a student reported that Moisell showed the gun to other students in the school parking lot after dismissal on Monday.
According to MCSO, School Resource Officer Daniel Luiken questioned Moisell after he arrived on campus the following morning. Moisell reportedly consented to a search of his person and vehicle, but no firearm was found. Later, another student came forward and told deputies that Moisell admitted to removing the gun before the search and discarding it in the woods wrapped in a black T-shirt.
Deputy Corey Stone followed a worn path behind Moisell’s vehicle and located the firearm hidden in the shirt. Moisell was removed from class, and though he refused to answer further questions, he allegedly admitted he brought the gun to school.
He was booked into the Marion County Jail before being transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
