A Marion County crash involving a school bus sent three people to the hospital Monday morning after a driver suffered a medical episode behind the wheel, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 9:02 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 441 and SE 176th Street, as detailed in the official FHP report .
Troopers say a 21-year-old Ocala man was driving a sedan southbound on U.S. 441 when he experienced a medical episode approaching the intersection. The vehicle veered into the left turn lane, where a school bus was stopped at a red light.
The sedan struck the right side of the bus, with both vehicles ultimately coming to rest on the grass shoulder just south of the intersection .
The school bus, driven by a 66-year-old Ocala woman, had 27 students on board at the time of the crash. Two students, along with the driver of the sedan, were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The sedan driver sustained minor injuries, while the bus driver was not injured .
All involved were reported to be wearing seatbelts where applicable, according to the report.
