Corrie Rae Feagans, 46, was arrested Saturday after Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies say she threw hot coffee at her young daughter during a domestic disturbance at a Marion County residence.
According to the arrest affidavit, deputies responded to the home on July 11 after receiving a report of child abuse. The child’s father told deputies Feagans had not been taking medication for a mental health condition for approximately 10 days before the incident.
Investigators say the child told deputies she was sitting on the living room couch while Feagans paced around the room. The child said she attempted to calm her mother and encouraged her to sit down. According to the report, Feagans allegedly grabbed the child’s face with one hand, spit in her face, and later threw hot coffee at her. Deputies say the coffee cup hit the floor before the liquid struck the child’s foot.
The child told deputies the coffee burned “for a little” but did not leave any burn marks. Deputies reported they observed no visible redness or burns. The child also provided the shirt she was wearing during the incident, which investigators said was consistent with her account.
When questioned by deputies, Feagans denied grabbing or spitting on the child. She acknowledged having a cup of coffee and admitted throwing coffee but said it spilled on herself and the floor first. She told deputies the coffee was warm, not hot, and denied throwing the cup in a manner that struck the child’s foot.
Feagans was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail on a charge of child abuse without great bodily harm.
