A domestic dispute in the early hours of Sunday morning escalated into gunfire when deputies say a woman fired a round into a shed where her partner was working.
According to a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report, 42-year-old Brandy Mechelle Coker and the victim, identified as Horace Coker, got into an argument around 4 a.m. at their home on SE 38th Avenue. Investigators say Brandy retrieved a Kel-Tec .380 handgun, stepped outside, and discharged a single round into the shed.
The victim told deputies he was near the shed when the bullet struck, close enough that he feared she was aiming for him. Brandy reportedly admitted firing the weapon “to scare him,” adding she “did not care whether or not” he was in the shed at the time.
Deputies located a shell casing and a hole in the shed consistent with the gunfire. While being transported to jail, Brandy allegedly warned deputies that “next she will blow the victim’s head off” and told them to “just wait until I get out.”
Coker was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm in a residential area. She was booked without bond.
