Belleview Memorial VFW Post 8083 is proud to announce the installation of a historic M59 Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) as a permanent static display at the Post located at 12666 SE U.S. Highway 441, Belleview, Florida 34420.
The display will serve as a visible reminder of the sacrifices made by America’s veterans and the military personnel who have served our nation with honor. Positioned prominently in front of the Post, the M59 APC will stand as an educational and historical landmark for residents, visitors, students, and future generations.
The M59 Armored Personnel Carrier was developed by the United States Army during the early 1950s and entered service in 1954. Designed to transport infantry troops safely across the battlefield, the M59 featured a fully enclosed armored hull capable of carrying up to ten combat-equipped soldiers. Powered by twin gasoline engines, the vehicle provided mobility and protection during a period of rapid military modernization.
The M59 served extensively with U.S. forces throughout the 1950s and early 1960s before being replaced by the more advanced M113 armored personnel carrier. Although its service life was relatively brief, the M59 played an important role in the evolution of mechanized infantry operations during the Cold War era. Many allied nations also utilized the vehicle, further extending its legacy around the world. “This display represents more than a military vehicle,” said representatives of Belleview Memorial VFW Post 8083. “It is a symbol of the men and women who answered our nation’s call to service and a tribute to all veterans who have defended freedom. We hope it will inspire visitors to learn more about our military history and the sacrifices made by those who served.”
The project has been made possible through the efforts of dedicated Post members, volunteers, and supporters who worked to prepare the display site and secure the historic vehicle. A special thanks to Shelby Crane Company for making the delivery possible. The M59 APC will become a centerpiece of the Post’s commitment to preserving military heritage and promoting patriotism within the community.
