With the first day of school just around the corner, Marion County Public Schools has released orientation dates and times for campuses across the district, giving students and families a chance to get comfortable before classrooms fill on the first day.
School orientations allow students to meet teachers, find classrooms, review schedules, learn bus information, and become familiar with campus procedures before the school year begins. Families can also receive information about extracurricular activities, bell schedules, and other important back-to-school details.
District officials are encouraging parents to verify their contact information during orientation and sign up for Family Access, the district’s free online portal that provides 24-hour access to grades, attendance, and other student information. Updated contact information will also help families stay connected through Apptegy, the district’s new communications platform, which will include a mobile app in the near future.
New students, particularly those entering kindergarten, are encouraged to register as soon as possible to avoid long lines on the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 10. Wyomina Park Elementary, which operates on a year-round calendar, welcomes students back Tuesday, July 21.
South Marion area orientation schedule:
• Belleview Elementary – Aug. 6 at 1 p.m.
• Belleview High School – Freshman Preview Aug. 5 at 3:30 p.m.; all students at 5 p.m.
• Belleview Middle School – Aug. 7 at 9 a.m. (new students and sixth grade)
• Belleview-Santos Elementary – Aug. 6 at 9 a.m. (VPK–Grade 2); 10:15 a.m. (Grades 3-5)
• Lake Weir High School – Aug. 6 at 5:30 p.m. (new students and ninth grade)
• Lake Weir Middle School – Aug. 6 at 9:30 a.m. (new students and sixth grade)
• Stanton-Weirsdale Elementary – Aug. 7 at 8:30 a.m.
