An Ocklawaha duplex had an unexpected visitor Saturday afternoon when a Jeep crashed into the front of the building, causing a partial collapse and prompting an evacuation.
Marion County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the 11000 block of SE 189th Court at 12:22 p.m. Saturday after multiple callers reported that a vehicle had slammed into the one-story duplex.
Crews from South Forest Station #6 arrived at 12:37 p.m. and found a silver Jeep that had struck the building.
One patient was located at the scene and evaluated by firefighters before being transported to a local hospital for additional medical treatment. No information was released regarding the extent of the patient’s injuries.
With part of the structure damaged in the crash, occupants of the duplex were evacuated as a precaution while firefighters checked the building for structural concerns and other potential hazards.
Despite the damage, no one was trapped inside the duplex and all occupants were accounted for.
The circumstances that sent the Jeep off the roadway and into the building were not immediately released.
