As a resident of Florida since 1976, I am appalled and outraged by the reasoning behind turning everything into a concrete jungle. We came from Broward in the seventies—horse pastures, goats, cows, and farms resembled what Ocala looks like now. I have watched my beloved hometown torn apart and transformed into a horrific, crowded, dirty, and violent county.
Fast forward to 2018… we moved to Ocala thinking, “Okay, we’re in a quiet town, like old South Florida.” But now, you all have taken what was sacred to us Floridians and turned it into a second Big Apple for retirees from up north. Stop the building, the rezoning of every single pasture. Not everything has to be new—and with that comes cheap and vastly overpriced housing.
Leave our county, and every other county, alone. You’re just turning Florida into a hellhole with no natural beauty.
